Our  History
The McKenna Recovery Center was started in 1989 by Dr. Gerald McKenna as Ke Ala Pono "The Right Path."  It was the first comprehensive outpatient program for the treatment of addictive disorders on Kauai.   Dr. McKenna had recently relocated to Kauai from Los Angeles where he was an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA School of Medicine and was involved in several alcohol and drug treatment programs there.  At the time of its founding, there were no treatment facilities on the island, he saw the need and established his first center, then went on to establish a second similar center in 1999 in Hilo, on the Big Island and in 2004, a Professionals Program in Honolulu, completing our current three locations.

What's New?

• Board Certified Interventionist.  As a new service, we have professional intervention available to assist your loved one in facing his/her disease of addiction.  Dr. Michael Foley travelled to the mainland to participate in a certification process recently and has become the only Board Certified Interventionist in the state of Hawaii as of March 2010.
• New Staff and Billing Statements.  Please welcome the newest addition to our McKenna Reocvery Center staff, Colette Nagao.  She has taken over the accounting functions of our center, and is activating fiscal order for all.  Please call us if you would like to inquire about a payment plan for treatment.
