Ke Ala Pono Kauai was founded in 1989 by Dr. Gerald McKenna. Having struggled with addiction in his early adult life, Dr. McKenna started an organization for those who faced the same challenges. Today, Ke Ala Pono Kauai serves a broad spectrum of patients, with several programs and tracks to best fit the individual's needs.
One of the programs that the McKenna Recovery Center specializes in is the adolescents program. Adolescents who have been identified by school staff, parents, therapists, or justice system are referred to the Mckenna Recovery Center. This program helps adolescents:
learn about addiction
develop skills to prevent continued abuse or addiction
maintain healthy relationships
develop social/communication skills
increase sober activities and friendships
address underlying issues in their family and other adolescents
Another program The McKenna Recovery Center has created is our new Women's Program. This program has been created for women who are currently in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. The program will educate women on all aspects of addiction with an emphasis on healing from trauma and codependence. Our goal in implementing this program is to supply each woman with the tools she needs to live a sober and successful life.
